Chapters homeowners celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary

A couple of Chapters homeowners in Salisbury were thrown a small secret party to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary.

Peter and Jean Daykin, both aged 91, were joined by their family and fellow homeowners for a celebratory coffee morning in the homeowners’ lounge in Chapters.

It was a great opportunity for our homeowners to enjoy some tea, coffee and cake while hearing stories about Peter and Jean’s life together, having got married in 1952 – Just a few months after the Queen’s coronation.

The Daykin’s also enjoyed a private party at Chapters earlier in the week with around 30 people attending including family and loved ones travelling from as far away as Spain and Thailand.

Speaking to the Salisbury Journal at their private party about the secret to the success of their marriage, Peter said: “It’s rare to be married for this long, but we’ve enjoyed our lives together.

“We’re both a bit deaf, got poor eyesight, Jean has a bit of memory loss, but we’re both grateful to be here together at all, that is what we’re thankful for.

“I’d have to say tolerance – you don’t agree all the time – and a sense of humour are the most important things.”
