Luxury apartments in Sherborne take shape in over-55s village Our construction team have been working really hard to build a new apartment complex as part of a new over-55s independent-living village in Sherborne. Sherborne retirement village under construction We are constructing a range of luxury apartments, houses and a hotel in the new village at the top of Horsecastles Road and the A30, which is just a short walk from Sherborne town centre. A host of 82 luxury apartments will be available, which comprise of one, two and three bedrooms, a balcony or terrace, and undercroft parking. Residents can dine in the bistro, have a drink in the bar area, take part in a range of classes in the activity room, socialise in the communal TV and residents’ lounges, walk in the courtyard and enjoy some pampering time in the treatment room. Work is due to be completed on the apartments in September. The luxury homes in Sherborne are made affordable as part of a government-backed shared ownership scheme delivered in partnership with Homes England. It enables buyers to purchase a property for typically 50% of the full property value, with prices in Sherborne starting from £247,500. An open event is set to take place from 3 – 9 May 2021, which will enable home buyers to reserve an apartment off-plan, as well as viewing information and images which have never been seen before by the public. Enhanced Covid-safe measures will be in place for the benefit of visitors and the team at the open event which requires visitors to book in advance. Tyron Ebdon, project manager for Sherborne, said: “Our construction team have worked incredibly hard to continue to make progress on the site as we know there is a huge amount of pent-up demand for the houses and apartments we are building. The Sherborne site offers the perfect opportunity for the residents to live in a welcoming community alongside their neighbours to reduce the loneliness and isolation that some rural residents may feel, while enabling them to enjoy an independent lifestyle in their own home.” The scaffolding is beginning to be taken down from the exterior of the apartment complex following the completion of the roof and the installation of the windows. Internally, the construction team are working from the top floor downwards to plaster the walls and install the fully-fitted kitchens. In addition to the apartments, 37 houses will also be part of the village, featuring a mix of townhouses, semi-detached and detached two bedroom and three-bedroom properties. Construction on the first 15 houses, which have individual gardens with a patio area, will be completed by mid-March. The rest of the houses will be completed in phases leading up to June. Work will start onsite in May on a 24-room hotel featuring a dry spa, restaurant and bar area, meeting rooms and conference room facilities, which is open to the public, as well as the homeowners’ families.
