Public Gardens and Space to enjoy in Christchurch

So, the seed of curiosity has been planted and you’re thinking about making Christchurch your home. But what does this pretty little town have to offer and will the lifestyle be a positive choice for you? At Platinum Skies, our properties are built in areas that perfectly complement the relaxing and peaceful ethos we promote. Retiring is about doing what you enjoy, in a welcoming and accommodating space. We look to surround our properties with picturesque outdoor spaces, whether that’s in the immediate vicinity or further afield. That’s why we’ve chosen our next development to be built in Christchurch.  Let’s take a look at some of the public gardens and outdoor spaces that make up the town.

Tuckton Tea Gardens

We never turn down the chance for a cup of tea, a biscuit and a good natter, but tea with a view is an added bonus. Tuckton Tea Gardens does exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a café that serves local food, situated amongst beautiful gardens beside the River Stour. The gardens open at 9am every morning for 11 months of the year and shut at 4.30pm in the cold, winter months and 5.30pm during the (sometimes cold!) British summer. In the summer, you’ll even be able to hop on a boat and go on a Barbecue River Cruise.

Red House Museum and Gardens

Red House Museum is a beautiful Georgian building built in 1764 that used to be a workhouse. You’ll be able to learn all about the history of the workhouse with the help of artefacts and sources in the Bygones Gallery. The Red House gardens will stimulate your senses as you can take a look at the beautiful rose garden and the sights and smells of the walled herb garden too. There’s a woodland walk you can go on in the South Garden as well. This is a relaxing day out where you can learn about Christchurch’s history and enjoy the gardens. It’s open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5.00pm and 10am til 4pm on Saturday.

Hengistbury Head

If you’re into nature and interested by the rich diversity of the environment around us then Hengistbury Head could be right up your street. It’s a site of real significance for anyone interested in the outdoors. It is home to over 500 plant species, 300 types of birds, insects, reptiles and small mammals. This is down to the wide variety of different terrains and habitats available.

There’s so much to see and do that you’ll have to keep coming back to experience the beautiful heathland, coastland, grassland and woodland. You can walk, run or cycle around the site, it’s up to you. You name it, Hengistbury Head has got it; it’s a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Special Area of Conservation and a Local Nature Reserve amongst many other things. When you fancy getting amongst nature and learning about the world around you, it’s a great place to start. The site is open from 10am til 5pm in the summer and 10am til 4pm during the winter.
