Platinum Skies hosts gardening for butterflies talk in Taunton retirement community A guest presenter from BBC Gardener’s World gave a talk on butterflies at our Taunton community which has views over the Quantock Hills. Homeowners at our Quantock House over-55s community, based on Paul Street, listened to a gardening talk by Jane Moore, Head Gardener at The Bath Priory. Jane, who previously achieved a silver medal for a small garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, gave an illustrated talk, which was also attended by members of the public, about some of the 59 different types of butterflies found in the UK and the plants that can attract them. Living at Platinum Skies in Taunton Our Quantock House retirement community is aimed at people aged 55 and over who want to live amongst like-minded neighbours who enjoy socialising during activities together, while having the safety and security of a new purpose-built apartment which is suitable for them now and in the future. Homeowners can use a host of communal facilities including a bar, bistro, homeowners’ lounge, treatment room, and activity room, as well as a guest suite which friends and family can stay in. Quantock House has two dedicated Community Managers, Cassie and Hazel, who organise fun activities such as wine tasting workshops, talks, live music, yoga, coffee mornings, quizzes, and crafts, as well as providing practical and emotional support to the community’s homeowners. Community events & activities programme Jane’s talk was the latest event organised by the Community Managers as part of a packed schedule for spring, which include a container gardening talk, afternoon tea, bangers and mash for St George’s Day, and a flower arranging demonstration. Hazel Symonds, Community Manager for Quantock House, said: “It has been really nice to bring our homeowners together as part of our spring activity. We love to see them chatting, sharing their skills and hobbies, and having a laugh as they are such a lovely, happy group of people. Hazel added: “Some of them have experienced some levels of loneliness in their last homes before moving here, so it’s great to see them gaining a new sense of purpose and living life to the full in their own homes, but with the knowledge that we’re on hand if they need us.” Prices for one of our apartments in Taunton town centre start from £105,000 with our Platinum Skies shared ownership scheme.
